Biologically, we do live longer. But does that mean its better ? That is the question we all have different points of view on. Personally I believe that through technology in modern day society, that has helped the human race substantially become more genetically evolved and gain stronger attributes such as contributing to the transfer of genes/alleles from one generation to the next. Technology such as DNA cloning, IVF, even creating the genes for your baby in an unnatural environment is what some individuals will go to to make sure the future of their child is what they believe will be the best for them. But will it ?
There does come advantages and disadvantages to each side of the story such as us homo sapiens and other species before us having broader hips with thick short limbs for the advantage of having extra space for fat to keep ourselves warmer in the colder months. In comparison, our bodies when exposed to harsh uv light have higher cases of pigmentation to increase their variability against the sun
We as a race have genetically altered our food source such as cows through selective breeding. Through injecting them to be fatter and gain muscle, we are not only changing them for our 'benefit' but we are decreasing the wild type genes of cows to keep on living. I recently asked my friend if she would prefer to have a normal piece of steak compared to a more plump piece, she chose the more plump piece. Even after i explained how the meat had been unnaturally modified with hormones and enhancers, her answer still stayed the same. This just goes to show how some individuals will put aside the negatives of how the food they see in front of them got there. To make the meat bigger, injections of steroids and antibiotics are given, with people unknowingly how they got that size, they don't recognise that they are consuming whatever the cow has. This can build a greater force of antibiotic resistance in people as they are initially consuming antibiotics without knowing, creating a broader populous of infected people
Technology such as mobile phones has greatly impacted our lives as it is one of the main drives of a person. Our whole lives revolve around technology now. From watching television, texting, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, the list goes on and on. The average teenager spends around 33 hours on technology a week ! Back when the neanderthals existed as well as previous species, they had 0 technology and still managed to live a substantial life with he hunter gatherer lifestyle living off the land. If you look at what technology has done to us now, our lives have been inflicted by social media. Look at a teenagers Facebook page for example. They may have over 3000 friends, but do they really know all of them ? I think not. As technological devices are taking up most of our day, we are leading ourselves into a sedentary lifestyle which can end in effects such as obesity which is a rising risk for society. We have now invented machinery for farmers to use to collect crops, changing the way in which we provide ourselves. It has made us become more lazy and only think about quantity rather than quality
Overall, there are negatives and positives to living in todays society and hundreds of thousands of years ago. But we wouldn't be living today without the enhancements in technology that has effected everyones lives worldwide. I know that i am grateful for how we have evolved as a species and am excited to see what it will look like for the future generations
